Film Programmeby The Hospital Club

In Partnership with The Hospital Club we showed 5 classic films that have been shot on location in Camden or where Camden features heavily.

Project Description

London is a magnificent city; it is iconic and home to some of the most recognisable views of England, from Camden Lock to the BT Tower.

In partnership with The Hospital Club we showed 5 films that have been filmed mostly in Camden or where Camden features heavily in the storyline. With its rich visual history, Camden makes an inspiring backdrop for any story and we were pleased to see it featured so predominantly in such a large number of great films. Moreover, Camden is full or creative and talented residents, many of whom have directly produced, starred in, designed or directed these films. We were thrilled to announce that some of those professionals gave a short and unique introduction to the film showings at The Hospital Club.

9th May, 4.30pm - Richard III. The film was introduced by Tony Burrough who was the production designer and was nominated for an Academy Award in the category of Best Art Direction for the film.

6th June, 4.30 pm - Venus. This comedy-drama was introduced by producer Kevin Loader (also known for In the Loop, Nowhere Boy and upcoming The Lady in the Van).

11th July, 4.30 pm - Me and Orson Welles. A 2008 British-American period comedy film directed by Richard Linklater and starring Zac Efron and Claire Danes. The film was introduced by the producer Marc Samuelson.

8th August, 4.30 pm - Breaking and Entering. A 2006 romantic crime drama directed by Anthony Minghella and starring Jude Law and Juliette Binoche. The film was introduced by the film's location manager Jonah Coombes.

12th September, 4.30 pm - Truly, Madly, Deeply. A 1990 British drama staring Juliet Stevenson and Alan Rickman. The film was introduced by Juliet Stevenson.

About the Artist

The Hospital Club

The Hospital Club was Founded by Paul Allen and Dave Stewart. The story goes that one night, Paul and Dave were having a drink in Covent Garden when they spotted a boarded-up building over the road. Between them, they hatched a plan to revive this once elegant shell, and transform it into a hub of creativity – full of people, ideas, music and life.

Paul bought the former St Paul’s Hospital in 1996. Renovations began on the interior in 1999 and The Hospital Club opened its doors in 2004. Dave Stewart worked in close collaboration with Paul on the creation of the Club vision and continues to be a key figure in developing the Club’s creative direction.
